Fred Young

Fred Young, 84, is at peace in his heavenly home, where he has joined his parents, Urias and Ina Moss Young, along with his sister, Ruth Childers, and brother, Herman Young.

Fred was a humble man with a big and soft heart who loved working with his hands to build furniture, crafts and his homes. For years, Fred decorated his yard with tens of thousands of Christmas lights for all to enjoy. He derived much pleasure from the many people that visited the lighted spectacle that he worked for months each year to prepare. He also enjoyed helping others in charitable affairs.

Fred retired from the U.S. Army in 1976 after 22 years of service. He was very proud to be a veteran and visited many locations around the world. He also later retired from working for Murray County.

At the time of his passing, Fred was in Gordon Hospital under the care of Tapestry Hospice. The care and attention he received under Tapestry and Gordon Hospital was beyond wonderful and our family is most appreciative.

Fred is survived by his wife, Jon Christine Young; son, Timothy Fred Young; daughter, Teza Lajon Young, all of Chatsworth. He is also survived by his brothers, Lucky Young of Dalton and Scott Maddox of Cumming; sister, Katherine Wilson of Dalton; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Services for Fred will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Harrison Parker officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in Cool Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m.

Peeples Funeral Home and Crematory of Chatsworth is in charge of arrangements.
