Homer Rembert Burgess, 74, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013.
Mr. Burgess was a native of Rydal and lived in Tunnel Hill before retiring to Lake Sinclair. He was a construction superintendent, building nuclear power plants and petroleum refineries. He was a member of the Pipe Fitters & Steam Fitters Local No. 43. He was a former governor of the Moose Lodge and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Dalton. He served in the U.S. Air Force where he was a member of the Golden Gloves boxing team. His passion was fishing, hunting and golfing, and he was a member of the Baldwin Backlashers. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Sue Morgan Burgess.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Strickland Burgess of Milledgeville; two sons, Michael Burgess (Julie) of Milledgeville and Tony Burgess (Kendra) of Rocky Face; three daughters, Tamara Siragusa (Jim) of Milledgeville, Kim Silver (Alex) of Athens and Amy Glover (Tom) of Milledgeville; a brother, Wayne Burgess of Cartersville; a stepbrother, Charles Whitner of Dalton; a grandchild, Cody Burgess; and five stepgrandchildren, Anna Kleinberg, Danny Kleinberg, Mac McDaniel, Stella Glover and Sam Glover.
The family will receive friends today from from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Moores Funeral Home.
Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home.
Burial will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in West Hill Cemetery in Dalton.
