Junior Martin


— Mr. Junior Martin, 80, of Calhoun, passed away at his residence while surrounded by his loving family early Wednesday morning, March 12, 2014, after an extended illness.

He was born in Murray County on July 26, 1933, son of the late James Richard Martin and Ada Adams Martin.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jane Martin Calvin and Martha Beavers, and four brothers, Ray, James, Berry and Davis Martin.

Prior to Mr. Martin’s retirement, he owned J&S Carpets of Chatsworth and was a poultry farmer in the Ranger community of Gordon County. He was an avid outdoorsman and a coon hunter. He was also a member of the Cool Springs Baptist Church.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Frances Temples Martin, to whom he was married to for 58 1/2  years; two sons, Jeff Martin and his wife Karen of Calhoun, and Shawn Martin and his wife Rhonda of Calhoun; four grandchildren, R.J. Martin and his wife Tina, Jamie Holsomback and her husband Zane, Shawnda Martin and Cailey Martin; three great-grandchildren, Hayden Holsomback, Aspen Martin and Ace Martin; three sisters, Dolly Forrester of Varnell, Rachel Buckner of Chatsworth and Rosa King of Ringgold; and two brothers, Donald Martin of Dalton and Cecil Adams of Denison, Texas.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Junior Martin will be Friday at 2 p.m. from Oak Hill Baptist Church on Ga. Route 140 East in Rydal with the Rev. Reggie Temples, the Rev. Lamar Beason and the Rev. Arthur Corbin officiating.

Music will be arranged by the Cool Springs Quartet, Rhonda Martin and family.

Interment will be in the church cemetery with the Rev. Wendall Stover in charge of the graveside service. Pallbearers serving will include Jeff Martin, Shawn Martin, R.J. Martin, Zane Holsomback, Tim Griffin, Lamar Hardin, Hayden Holsomback, Aspen Martin and Ace Martin.

The Martin family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home in Calhoun today from 5 to 9 p.m.
