Edward Eugene Whitfield, 78, of Rocky Face, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Madge Whitfield, and sister, Daphene Carden.
He was a member of Ringgold First Baptist Church. He was the choir director at Rocky Face Baptist Church for 12 years and minister of music for 24 years at Tunnel Hill First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Peggy Green Whitfield of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael E. and Jean Whitfield of Tunnel Hill, and Mark E. and Mary Whitfield of Rocky Face; grandchildren, Ananias and Erikka Whitfield, Josiah and Jane Whitfield, and Jessica Rose Whitfield; great-grandchildren, Trysten, Josiah and Benaiah; uncle, J. B. Whitfield; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Whitfield will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ringgold First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Davis and the Rev. Dewey Boyd officiating.
Burial will be in Tunnel Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Westside Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home today from 5 to 9 p.m.
