Grady Jefferson Burns

Mr. Grady Jefferson Burns, 71, of Hall Memorial Road in Calhoun, departed this life Monday afternoon, March 23, 2009, at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome.

Grady was born March 29, 1937, in Whitfield County, a son of the late James Burns and Ruby Franks Burns Dean. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Bright.

Grady was a truck driver and worked at Norville Industries for more than 33 years. He was a member and deacon at Way of the Cross Church.

He is survived by his wife, Essie Bishop Burns of the home and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 8, 2009; sons and daughters-in law, Ricky and Sonya Burns of Chattanooga and Travis and Kathy Burns, Terry and Rhonda Burns and Allan Burns, all of Calhoun; stepson and daughter-in-law, David and Thereisa Bright of Chatsworth; brother, Marvin Burns of Calhoun; sister, Katherine Jordon of Centre, Ala.; grandchildren, Kristy and Jonathan Smith, Nicolas and Lea Burns, Holly and Billy Blackmon, Ricky Jr. and Amanda Burns, Blake and Kristy Burns, Jarred Burns, Jeremy Burns, Jody and Angie Bright, Mark Bright and Jeneva Swaggerty; great-grandchildren, Brody Burns, Isaac Smith, Autumn Smith, Noah Smith, Silas Smith, Little Rick Burns, Kylie Burns, Candice Patterson, Cayman Blackmon and Brody Blackmon; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Grady Jefferson Burns are Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Calhoun Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with the Rev. Milton Allen and the Rev. Jonathan Smith officiating.

He will be laid to rest at the Chandler Cemetery with Terry Burns, Blake Burns, Jarred Burns, Mark Franks, Isaac Smith and Cody Franks serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday after 11 a.m.
