Strange justice

The city of Eton set a low standard of behavior for its employees this week when it kept popular city clerk Kim Hall on the payroll.

Hall, who is currently facing five counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, allowing an unlicensed driver to drive and open container of alcohol in the vehicle, was suspended without pay for one month and put on “indefinite probation” by the City Council.

Her legal problems came after a June joyride with several teens, including her son, that included the theft of city street signs and a cigarette butt container. That’s right, a city employee took part in the theft of city property. One would expect that kind of stupid, criminal action to be cause for immediate termination, but that’s not how things played out in Eton.

The City Council bent over backward to retain the popular employee, but that leaves us with a question.

What exacly do you have to do to get fired in Eton?

And one other thing, if there are future problems with this employee, how many council members will step up for their share of the responsibility?
