Citizen of the Week: Teresa Morrison

In today’s economy, many restaurant owners are finding it difficult to make a profit. More and more customers are choosing to eat home-cooked meals because of higher costs, lower wages and rising unemployment. However, making money isn’t always the No. 1 priority.

Teresa Morrison, owner of The Village Cafeteria in Chatsworth, is one such example.

When friends or loved ones pass away, Southerners tend to show they care with food. Morrison keeps the tradition by sending food to funeral homes when one of her customers or someone in their family dies. She does this free of charge because she treats her customers like family, and it is a way she helps them in their time of grief.

Morrison also has been known to allow regulars who have hit hard times financially or stricken with illness to eat at the restaurant at no cost.

“She is always putting people before herself,” said Heather Edwards. “She has a heart as big as the world.”

For her selflessness, The Daily Citizen names Teresa Morrison Citizen of the Week.
