Citizens of the Week: Rock Bridge Community Church volunteers

The Daily Citizen

— A group of members from Rock Bridge Community Church demonstrated a desire to branch beyond serving only their own recently.

“As senior citizens, although not members of Rock Bridge, we were blessed to be the recipients of this outreach,” said Dalton resident Barbara Lundy. “Ten people came to our house on a rainy day, bringing towels, boots, pressure washers, etc. This event had been scheduled for several weeks.”

Lundy said three days leading up to the service had been marked by heavy rains. It even rained the morning they were scheduled to arrive.

“The rain stopped about 11:30 and stayed just long enough for them to wash all our windows outside, pressure wash all the way around the house, carry off dead leaves and debris, reinstall a stubborn storm window and move a large piece of furniture that we couldn’t handle,” Lundy said.

She said they even went across the street and washed a neighbor’s windows, working well over four hours.

By 6 p.m., the rain and storms had moved in again.

“These people showed the love of God in a way that no one in my life ever has,” Lundy said.

A job well done.

She said the individuals who helped were Scott and Sherri Amonett, Bob and Robin Coffey, Stacy and Mike Junkins, Kevin and Patti Roberts, Bruce and Kayanne Satterfield, and Randy and Nancy Sims.

We could all take a page from the books of these gracious volunteers and look to help our friends, neighbors and even strangers.

During these difficult economic times, it seems a lot of us could use a helping hand.

We hope to see the good deeds continue throughout the entire community — and entire nation.

For their generosity in helping someone in need, The Daily Citizen names these individuals from Rock Bridge Community Church Citizens of the Week.
