Each year, the Dalton Shrine Club collects toys and food for needy children and their adult family members.
For the past three months, B&B Auction of Dalton has been helping round up enough toys to fill Santa’s Shrine Club sleigh. Buddy Beavers of B&B, along with helpers James Beavers and Sherry Sober, work every Monday night to make sure the boxes are filled with playthings for the kids.
The way it works, said Don Anderson of the Shrine Club, is Buddy Beavers has people bid on toys and then donate them, explaining to them where the toys will go. On top of that, he bids on items himself and puts them in the box. Anderson said that while Beavers collects a small percentage of the price on everything that comes through the auctions, he donates back far more than that.
“These guys are just heroes,” Anderson said. “This man (Buddy Beavers) just goes out of his way to help us.”
He said the auctions collected four large boxes of items that Shriners will deliver to families within the next few days. He estimates their value is several thousand dollars.
The auctions are held every Monday from 6 p.m. to about 10:30 p.m. at the facility off of Riverbend Road. This is the second year B&B has helped with the Shrine Club’s Christmas toy drive.
For all his work to make Christmas a little brighter for dozens of local families, The Daily Citizen names Buddy Beavers Citizen of the Week.
