Like the thousands who contacted Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal opposing the “Guns Everywhere” bill HB875/60, I do not believe this bill should be signed into law.
I have been a gun owner and a hunter. I am a veteran and believe in the Second Amendment. However, I do not believe that allowing guns to be carried in more and more places will do anything to help gun violence.
To the contrary, I believe the more people who are “carrying” in classrooms, airports, bars and other places the more gun violence we will have, especially in light of the “Stand Your Ground” laws.
We need common sense laws, such as effective background checks which will prevent guns getting into the hands of the mentally ill, domestic abusers and felons And, we need more funds for the diagnosis and treatment of the mentally ill.
I’m proud to stand with former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, retired Navy captain and astronaut Mark Kelly, who are committed to finding common sense solutions to prevent gun violence in our communities.
