Want to see a miracle?
The first spring season at Whitfield County’s Miracle Field begins Saturday morning with games at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30.
A Miracle Field is a synthetic/rubberized turf baseball field that allows people in wheelchairs and walkers to glide across it and not get stuck in the usual infield dirt. The bases are painted onto the field — not raised — to allow players to move over them. The league pairs players with “buddies” who help them.
The athletes you’ll see playing there are some of the most inspiring and exciting players you will ever see.
At the same time you watch the athletes play, you can reflect on what this community can do even in tough times. The Miracle Field opened just last fall, and it would not exist without the support of the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners and the Whitfield County Parks and Recreation Department. But the idea for the field came from ordinary citizens, and it would not exist without countless individuals and companies who donated their time and money to see it built.
The Miracle Field is inside Westside Park, 1519 Mount Vernon Road, in Rocky Face.
There’s plenty of parking, bleachers to sit on and a concession stand, so bring your family and enjoy a day out with them and your neighbors.
