A mountain biking program through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Gordon, Murray and Whitfield Counties has brought smiles to countless kids’ faces, but it wouldn’t be the success it is without supporters.
Linda Saul Schejola recently sponsored a riding event for club members in honor of her late husband, Carlo Schejola, who was a cycling enthusiast.
The event was Thursday at Raisin Woods Mountain Bike Park. More than 25 children and teens participated, plus local cycling supporters from Bear Creek Bike Shop and the Northwest Georgia Southern Off-Road Biking Association (SORBA).
Jason Finnell, director of development for the Boys & Girls Clubs, said Schejola is a long-time supporter of the mountain bike program. Her daughter, Lisa Schejola Akin, is also very instrumental in the program.
For the recent event, club members spent the afternoon riding, practicing mountain biking skills and enjoying the outdoors.
The Boys & Girls Clubs provides after school and summer programs for kids in several areas including leadership, health and fitness, the arts, educational and career development, and life skills. The organization, with seven locations in four counties, sees its participants with an average grade point average of 3.3, and served 1,900 members in 2012.
For her work in supporting the biking program to benefit local youth, The Daily Citizen names Linda Saul Schejola Citizen of the Week.
