For the past six years, Johnny and Kathy Miller have supported the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Whitfield County that draws attention to survivors and raises money for the organization.
The two own Western Sizzlin in Dalton and come on site the day of the event to prepare and serve a free meal for area cancer survivors.
“They have asked for no thanks for their efforts, and when they are thanked, (they) in turn thank the American Cancer Society for the opportunity to serve,” said Relay for Life of Whitfield County Survivorship Chairperson Terri Orr. “Their hard work and dedication to provide such a thoughtful and well-received part of the Relay festivities with such a generous heart exemplifies the volunteer spirit at its best.”
This year’s Relay for Life was held in May at the North Georgia Fairgrounds. Relay is a fundraising event in which participants take turns walking a track overnight, organizers said. A portion of the money raised for the organization goes toward cancer research.
The effects of cancer are so profound and far-reaching that survivors and their families can use all the support they can get.
For their generosity toward cancer survivors, The Daily Citizen names Johnny and Kathy Miller Citizens of the Week.
