The awakening of youth to compassion for others, politics and the world around them can be both encouraging and frightening, as evidenced by a letter in The Daily Citizen’s recent Sunday edition.
Encouragement is found not only in this young man’s written and oratorical abilities, but also in his professing to be a follower of Christ. These factors reflect well upon his parental and scholastic mentors, as well as his own abilities.
Fear arises from his abundant use of words and phrases parroted from politicians, religious leaders, etc., whose agendas are those of manipulation and indoctrination — neither teaching how to think nor educating. Was it divine providence that placed this young man’s letter adjacent to a column by Walter Williams, a proven scholar, teacher, seeker of truth and of fact?
Perhaps those blessed with the opportunity to guide this young man during his maturing years will encourage him to personally read God’s Word, study and learn from history, develop facts for himself and not simply accept and repeat utterances of others who would use his youth and inexperience to fulfill their own personal agendas.
