Deadline to register to vote is today

The Daily Citizen

— Anyone who says one vote can’t make a difference has never seen the results of some elections. Just during the past few years, we’ve seen ballot measures in some local cities decided by a single vote. And we’ve seen city council races decided by margins that barely broke the single digits. So yes, in local races one vote can make a difference.

Voters in Dalton, Cohutta and Varnell will go to the polls on Nov. 5 to decide a handful of council races in those cities. And Dalton voters will also have a contested Board of Education race to decide.

Early voting for those races starts Monday, Oct. 14, in the elections office in the Whitfield County Courthouse. But if you want to vote and haven’t yet registered, today is the deadline to file your registration form. These forms can be downloaded at the Georgia Secretary of State’s website, sos.georgia.gov. They can also be picked up at local elections offices, public libraries, public assistance offices, schools and most other government offices.

If you live in these three cities we certainly encourage you to vote. But if you are undecided about voting and haven’t registered to vote, please take the time to register today.
