Len Foote Hike info session set at DSC

An information session on the Len Foote Hike-Inn is scheduled Thursday, Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m.at the James E. Brown Center at Dalton State. An overnight trek to the wilderness lodge is scheduled November 2-3 as part of the DSC travel learning program, DSC Destinations.

“We invite anyone who has an interest in learning more about this unique North Georgia Mountain experience to join us for this free session to learn more about the Hike-Inn,” said Carol Burton, DSC Destinations coordinator.

“If you enjoy wilderness hiking but prefer a soft bed, hot showers and great food instead of camping, the Hike-Inn is for you,” says Burton, who has stayed at the rustic lodge that is accessible only by a five-mile long wilderness trail. The Hike-Inn is one of the Georgia state park system’s newest, most unique and most popular facilities. It is located on the grounds of Amicalola State Park.

Guests of the information session will view a DVD featuring the Inn and its beautiful mountain top vistas, the wilderness trails leading up to the lodge, the hearty meals served family style and the rustic but comfortable rooms where guests will spend the night. In addition, Burton will describe the delightful programs of Appalachian storyteller and troubadour Bob Thomason who will provide the evening’s entertainment.

“I cannot think of a grander way to celebrate the fall than with a hike and overnight stay at the Len Foote Hike-Inn,” Burton said.

Cost for the overnight hike adventure is $195 for two sharing a room and includes dinner, breakfast and box lunch. Price is $128 for a single. Those wishing to attend the free information session to learn more are encouraged to call to sign up at 706-272-4454.
