Georgia Cup cycling will return to Dalton

The Georgia Cup-Dalton Grand Prix cycling competition will return to the area for the third straight year next weekend.

The event, expected to attract competitors from around the region, will feature three races. A time trial and circuit race will be held on March 10, and a road race is set for March 11.

Spincycle, a turn-key operations management company specializing in running and cycling events, will host the competition.

“The event is expected to bring in 250 riders and $50,000 in economic impact,” said Brett Huske, executive director of the Dalton Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The Georgia Cup promotes itself as the very best in competitive cycling. They’ve chosen Dalton due to our great roads and location.”

Unlike the previous two years of the Georgia Cup, 2012 will not have a criterium race. Instead, it will be replaced with the circuit race, which will run around Dalton High School. The hills around the high school are intended to add a challenge to riders. For registration or information, visit spincyclesports.com.
