— The Dalton Dolphins are champions again.

The Dolphins and Stuart Heights both finished 6-2 in dual meets this summer during Chattanooga Area Swim League Blue Division competition. A split of their two head-to-head meets nullified the first tiebreaker, but Dalton coach Charles Todd said Wednesday that the second tiebreaker is head-to-head point differential — and there, the Dolphins came out ahead.

The Dolphins beat Stuart Heights 393-352 on June 11, while Stuart Heights won the second matchup 382-373 on June 28. Therefore, Dalton holds a 32-point advantage.

“They would’ve had to beat us by more than what we beat them by,” Todd said. “What would be cool is if we could double up in the City Meet as well.”

The City Meet, the CASL’s postseason championship, is Friday and Saturday at the Arlene Crye Pool in Fort Oglethorpe. The Dolphins, the host of this year’s City Meet, haven’t won the postseason title since 2006.

Stuart Heights closed its regular season Tuesday with a 434-334 win against Signal Mountain. However, Todd said the Dolphins already had the championship wrapped up Monday with a 456.5-306.5 defeat of Fairyland Club.

This is Dalton’s second consecutive regular season championship and fifth in eight years.
