Dalton man charged with murder

A Dalton man is in jail for murder after officials say he rammed his truck into a vehicle his ex-girlfriend was inside of at a fast food drive-through, then ran over and killed a man who had let her stay in his home.

The Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office arrested Frank Scott Bozzie, 47, of West Crawford Street at about 7:30 Monday morning. He is being held without bond.

According to a press release from Sheriff Scott Chitwood, the woman and her boyfriend were at the McDonald’s at 2531 E. Walnut Ave. shortly after 6 a.m. While they were in the drive-through, Maj. John Gibson said, Bozzie drove up, saw them, and rammed their vehicle with his pickup truck. They all left before officers arrived.

The woman and her boyfriend went to a small home at 504 Gay St., just a couple of miles away, where 54-year-old Horace Richard Morgan was letting them stay. Morgan was babysitting the woman’s two young children while they were out, Gibson said.

Shortly after they arrived, Bozzie drove up in his truck, and Morgan told him to leave. Instead, Bozzie ran over Morgan, the release states. Morgan died at the scene.

“He was just apparently a friend and was allowing (the woman) to stay there,” Gibson said.

Gibson said Bozzie took off on foot after running over Morgan. A deputy located him walking down Tibbs Bridge Road at about 7:30 a.m. Officials said he was taken into custody without incident.

Employees at the McDonald’s declined comment, citing corporate policy.

A woman who lives on Gay Street said that while there are some good people in the neighborhood, it’s also filled with crime. Deanna Holmes said she frequently hears gunshots and recently heard a larger explosion. She wasn’t surprised to find the neighborhood filled with police cars and other emergency vehicles.

“You see things go on constantly,” she said.
