Submitted by the Dalton Police Department
The Dalton Police Department is once again taking part in the statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run effort to raise money for Special Olympics Georgia. The agency is selling Torch Run merchandise to raise money and also through pledges for officers to run the nine-mile torch run in May. The Torch Run route takes officers and deputies through Whitfield County to the Gordon County line.
Each year, the Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest fundraising effort for Special Olympics Georgia. More than 100 law enforcement agencies across the state take part through various fundraisers that culminate with a series of relay runs with the Special Olympics torch. In 2013, the effort raised more than $759,000 in Georgia. This year, the statewide goal is to raise $849,000.
As part of the department’s fundraising effort, the DPD is selling 2014 Law Enforcement Torch Run hats and T-shirts for $12 each. The shirts are available in small, medium, large, X-large and 2X-large. They are on sale at the Police Services Center at 301 Jones St.
The date has not yet been set for the run through Whitfield County to the Gordon County line, but it will take place in May. Anyone who wants to sponsor a DPD runner can contact Lt. Chris Crossen at (706) 278-9085, ext. 310, or at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
