DPD seeks identity of cigarette snatcher

Cigarettes may be bad for your health, but Dalton Police Department investigators are hoping surveillance video will be worse for a man who likes cigarettes but apparently doesn’t like to pay for them. Investigators are asking for the public’s help with identifying a man who grabbed four packs of cigarettes and ran out of an area convenience store without paying for them.

The incident happened on Thursday, June 13, at a convenience store at 1702 Morris St., at 6:30 pm. A white male with short brown hair entered the store and asked for the four packs of cigarettes. The store clerk set the cigarettes down on the counter and turned to the cash register to ring up the purchase. That’s when the suspect grabbed the cigarettes and ran out of the store. The clerk gave chase, but lost the suspect as he ran towards Barbara Avenue.

The suspect is described as standing between 5 feet, 10 inches and 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 220 pounds. He wore a dirty white or gray T-shirt with blue jeans. He had some sort of tattoo on his left forearm. He was captured on the store’s surveillance cameras.

Anyone who knows this suspect’s identity is asked to please contact Sgt. Matthew Locke at (706) 278-9085, ext. 320.
