Two charged in weekend assaults

A Dalton woman who police say got drunk at a party and started throwing knives at a guest remained in the Whitfield County jail without bond as of Monday afternoon.

Gloria Jean Williams, 45, of 1011 Trammel St., No. 1, was charged Saturday by the Dalton Police Department with aggravated assault and public drunkenness after she reportedly became belligerent and threw carving knives at a man. The man was unhurt.

According to an incident report, Williams was “screaming and yelling obscenities” as she was being placed into the back of the patrol car and was placed in a padded cell after she arrived at the jail.

In a separate incident, a Dalton man was charged in connection with beating up a woman after admitting to drinking a 12-pack of beer, according to an incident report.

Timothy Justin Knight, 25, of 924 Avenue F, No. 4, was charged Sunday by the Dalton Police Department with aggravated assault, battery (family violence, first offense) and cruelty to a child after a woman he was with said he choked her to the point of leaving marks on her neck and left part of her face reddened.

Knight told police he and the woman were arguing over the mess in the apartment, but he denied assaulting her. The woman told investigators he attacked her in front of her baby after she spilled a drink, and the incident escalated from there.

Knight also remained in the Whitfield County jail without bond as of Monday.
