Tips help crack car break-in case

Thanks to multiple tips from the public, the Dalton Police Department has obtained arrest warrants for Kenneth Raymond, 44, of East Ridge, Tenn., in connection with an August car burglary.

He is charged with second degree burglary, four counts of financial transaction card theft, two counts of theft by taking and one count of financial card fraud. Raymond is currently in the Walker County jail on another charge and will be brought to Whitfield County when he is released.

The original incident happened Aug. 26 when a car parked at a doctor’s office on Dug Gap Road was broken into by smashing a passenger side window. A purse was stolen, and shortly later one of the credit cards taken was used at a gas station on Walnut Avenue.

Investigators got a picture of the suspect from the store’s surveillance system and sent it to area media. Several people contacted the Dalton Police Department and identified the suspect as Raymond. Investigators tracked him down at the Walker County jail where he has been since the end of August on an unrelated charge.

The Dalton Police Department thanks all area media who ran this story on Sept. 23 and also everyone who contacted police with the suspect’s identity.
