Area arrests

• Paul Thomas Benjamin, 35, 906 Sierra Place-22, Dalton, was charged Sunday by the Dalton Police Department with battery (family violence, first offense), simple battery (family violence), criminal trespass and cruelty to a child.

• Lisa Michelle Cross, 34, 270 Poteet Road, Cleveland, Tenn., was charged Sunday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with being a fugitive from justice.

• Wesley Glenn Johnson, 40, 215 Meadowdale Drive, Dalton, was charged Sunday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with terroristic threats and acts.

• Marlene Martinez, 23, 1302 Valencia Way, Dalton, was charged Sunday by the Dalton Police Department with DUI.

• Luis Alfredo Santos-Espinal, 19, 114 S. Edillia Drive, Dalton, was charged Sunday by the Dalton Police Department with DUI, operating a motor vehicle without a proper tag or decal and furnishing, purchasing or possession of alcohol by a minor.

• Joseph Lloyd Saylor, 48, 107 Wooten Drive, Dalton, was charged Sunday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with DUI, reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, an open container violation, a safety belt violation and driving while license is suspended or revoked.

• Shunell Towns Jr., 30, 1306 Georgian Place-5, Dalton, was charged Sunday by the Dalton Police Department with battery (family violence, first offense) and criminal trespass.

• John Phillips, 26, 55 Magnolia Lane, Chatsworth, was charged Monday by the Dalton Police Department with aggravated assault with a gun, criminal trespass, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony.

  • Suspect in custody, will be taken to hospital for evaluation (Updated 9:35 p.m.)

    A man who reportedly barricaded himself on the second floor of a two-story building at 1029 S. Hamilton St. in Dalton, believed to have been armed, is now in custody and is on his way to the hospital for evaluation, officials said.
