Middle School Roundup: Linder leads NH girls

Maggie Linder scored 19 points as New Hope Middle School’s eighth-grade girls basketball team beat visiting Gladden 56-23 on Thursday.

Hallie Brooker and MaLane Kyer each chipped in nine points for the Lady Kodiaks, who remained undefeated six games into the season.

• New Hope seventh-grade girls 38, Gladden 5: Olivia Jones led all scorers with a dozen points, Sydney Horne added 10 and Alaina Thompson had eight as the Kodiaks (4-2) won at home Thursday.

• Christian Heritage varsity boys 52, Clear Creek 31: Luke Moseley finished with 19 points and seven steals as the Lions (3-0) rolled Saturday in Ellijay.

Christian Koneman added 12 points and six rebounds and Brett DeLozier came off the bench to score 10 points.

• Ocoee (Tenn.) eighth-grade boys 53, Dalton 27: Zach Gentray and Harrison Norman each had eight points as the Cougars (3-4) lost Friday in Cleveland, Tenn.

• Ocoee (Tenn.) seventh-grade boys 44, Dalton 12: Jamal Macon’s five points topped the scorebook for the Cougars (2-3) as they lost Friday in Cleveland, Tenn.

• Gladden eighth-grade boys 34, New Hope 26: Tucker Gregg had 16 points, four rebounds and three steals as the Warriors (3-3) won Thursday at home.

Jordan Pacheco added seven points and three rebounds, while Cole Sparks had six points and five rebounds.

New Hope did not report statistics by The Daily Citizen’s deadline.

• Gladden seventh-grade boys 25, New Hope 18: Trevor Cox’s 19-point, six-rebound effort paced the Warriors (4-2) to Thursday’s win over the visiting Kodiaks, who did not report statistics by The Daily Citizen’s deadline.

Wrestling

• Gladden split a pair of duals Thursday at Dalton, beating the host Cougars 43-32 but losing 48-36 to Ocoee of Cleveland, Tenn.

Against Dalton, Tre Roper (94), David Bautista (123) and Christian Perez (180) won by pin, with Cody Burke (154) winning by major decision and Neal Henry (100), Ethan Carol (108) and Jacob Arthur (140) winning by decision. David Bautista (72) and Tyler Kilgore (78) each accepted a forfeit.

Against Ocoee, Ryan Carter (86), Roper (94), Henry (100), Bautista (123), Perez (180) and John Garcia (215) all won by pin.

  • Prep Baseball Roundup: Raiders out of hunt for the playoffs

    Needing a win to keep Southeast Whitfield High School’s baseball season meaningful, Raiders coach Brad Lofton turned to a pair of senior pitchers on Friday at Heritage-Catoosa.
    The seniors didn’t disappoint, but it was the offense and the defense that couldn’t come through.

  • Prep Roundup: Dalton golf teams in form at Fields Ferry

    Even in wet and muddy conditions, both the Dalton High School boys and girls golf teams are sharpening their games at the right time.
    With the Region 7-4A tournament scheduled in two weeks, both the Catamounts and the Lady Cats finished second during play at the Fields Ferry Invitational in Calhoun on Monday. Despite the soggy conditions, Dalton’s Jacob Brown tied for medalist honors with a 2-over par 74 to lead the Cats to a 313 combined score in the six-play, four-score format. Dalton finished three strokes behind tournament winner LaFayette.

    Dalton High School golfer Allen Behr shot a 3-under-par 69 during the second day of the Indian Invitational in Vidalia to lead the Catamounts to a top-10 finish in the event Saturday.

    The Lions took advantage of three crucial Mount Pisgah Christian errors, and the visiting Patriots couldn’t get the timely hit when they needed it as the Lions took a much-needed 5-3 win Monday night.

    As long as Southeast Whitfield High School’s baseball team continues to hit the ball and score runs the way it has so far this season, it really won’t matter what the defense does.

    Region 7-2A followed suit Wednesday, but Region 5-3A is still up in the air for playing games today.

    The Region 6-A, 7-2A and Region 7-4A high school basketball tournament games have been called off today due to the threat of bad weather and dangerous travel conditions. Games scheduled for today in regions 7-2A and 7-4A will be played Tuesday, weather permitting.
    Region 6-A takes a whole different look.
