Basketball is off, snowballs on for area sports

All high school sports events scheduled for Tuesday involving teams in Murray and Whitfield counties were postponed due to the wintry weather conditions.

All public schools in Murray and Whitfield counties ended school early and those schools’ athletic games were called off, as was Christian Heritage's sports events.

Murray County’s basketball games at Coosa have been rescheduled for Saturday, with the junior varsity boys playing at 1:30 p.m., the varsity girls at 3 p.m. and the varsity boys at 4:30 p.m.

The boys and girls swimming and diving meet at Dalton High School between the host Cata-mounts and Lady Cats, Northwest Whitfield and Chattanooga’s Notre Dame has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday.

Other high school basketball games scheduled for today were: Christian Heritage at Gordon Lee; Cartersville at Coahulla Creek; North Murray at Sonoraville; Dalton at Northwest; Morris Innovative at Chattooga; and Southeast Whitfield at Heritage-Catoosa.

Murray County High School’s wrestling team also was scheduled to compete in duals at Ringgold against the host Tigers and LaFayette. But with the Area 3-2A traditional tournament coming up this weekend, there are no plans to reschedule the event.

In college sports, Dalton State’s home game today against Marietta’s Life University has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the trade center. It’s one of three home games remaining for the Roadrunners, who host homecoming at 4 p.m. Saturday at the trade center against Allen University of Columbia, S.C.

    Needing a win to keep Southeast Whitfield High School’s baseball season meaningful, Raiders coach Brad Lofton turned to a pair of senior pitchers on Friday at Heritage-Catoosa.
    The seniors didn’t disappoint, but it was the offense and the defense that couldn’t come through.

  • Prep Roundup: Dalton golf teams in form at Fields Ferry

    Even in wet and muddy conditions, both the Dalton High School boys and girls golf teams are sharpening their games at the right time.
    With the Region 7-4A tournament scheduled in two weeks, both the Catamounts and the Lady Cats finished second during play at the Fields Ferry Invitational in Calhoun on Monday. Despite the soggy conditions, Dalton’s Jacob Brown tied for medalist honors with a 2-over par 74 to lead the Cats to a 313 combined score in the six-play, four-score format. Dalton finished three strokes behind tournament winner LaFayette.

    The Region 6-A, 7-2A and Region 7-4A high school basketball tournament games have been called off today due to the threat of bad weather and dangerous travel conditions. Games scheduled for today in regions 7-2A and 7-4A will be played Tuesday, weather permitting.
