Coahulla Creek High School’s softball team won 3-2 in dramatic fashion Monday at home versus Region 5-3A rival North Murray.
Shelbe Dilbeck led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a double for the Lady Colts, and after a pair of walks, Baylee Adkins had a one-out single to drive in the game-winning run.
Coahulla Creek (15-6, 6-3 Region 5-3A) didn’t have any players with multiple hits, but Kala Franks had an RBI double and LaSha Hedden also had an RBI.
Colts coach Josh Swiney said he told his team before the bottom of the seventh began the Lady Colts “needed baserunners.”
“Our whole thing these last couple games was to keep fighting,” Swiney said. “They answered. ... North Murray is playing well right now.”
Erin Harden pitched all seven innings for the Lady Colts, striking out 11 while allowing one earned run off of five hits and one walk.
Baylee Sutton was the only North Murray (7-13, 4-5) batter with multiple hits. She was 2-for-3.
Coahulla Creek scored twice in the second and North Murray tied the game in the sixth inning with Amber Bandy’s two-out, two-run single.
“We did everything we could do tonight,” Lady Mountaineers coach Steve Granger said. “They just had the last at-bat. We played a complete game, so I’m proud of my girls for that.”
• Dade County 2, Murray County 1: Whitney Gribble was the tough-luck loser in the circle as Murray County committed six throwing errors which led to both of Dade’s runs in the Region 7-2A contest.
Gribble pitched the complete game with four strikeouts while giving up eight hits and also drove in the lone run for Murray County (10-12, 4-3). Dade outhit the Lady Indians 8-5. At the plate, Aubrey Osborne went 2-for-3.
• Calhoun 9, Northwest Whitfield 1: Macy Weeks drove in the lone run for the Lady Bruins (21-3), who lost in five innings via the mercy rule.
Ashley Conner went 2-for-2 for Northwest, which beat Calhoun 12-2 Friday at the Score Invitational in Chattanooga.
“They played better and I’ll take the blame because they bunted us to death and we weren’t ready,” Lady Bruins coach Jason Brooker said. “We didn’t make the plays we should’ve made.”
• Northwest 26, Heritage-Catoosa 7: Tanner Kline had a 40-yard touchdown reception from Bruins (1-0-1) quarterback Paxton Pardee. Chase Blackwell scored on a 5-yard touchdown run, and Pardee had a 10-yard quarterback scramble for a score.
Noah Conry converted one of the team’s three two-point conversions. Jobanie Martinez made a 47-yard field goal right before halftime and also succeeded on a 38-yard attempt.
• Southeast Whitfield 29, Coahulla Creek 22: Brian Parks had a 10-yard rushing touchdown for the Raiders (1-1), and Keaton McCutchen had two quarterback sneaks for touchdowns.
Cody Gillean added a 25-yard touchdown run and twice found the end zone on a pair of a two-point conversions.
Alexis Rodriguez made one extra-point kick.
