Turnovers and penalties hurt Coahulla Creek High School’s football team in a 21-17 scrimmage loss to Heritage-Catoosa on Friday in Varnell, but Colts coach Jared Hamlin saw positives, too.
Wide receiver Michael Ward caught two touchdown passes, one from Blaine Williams and the other from Luke Brock. Pedro Garcia’s field goal rounded out the scoring in the game, which included starters playing most of the first half and second- and third-string players in the third and fourth quarters. The Generals led 7-3 at halftime.
“I thought we flew around really well and played good defense for the most part,” Hamlin said. “We committed too many penalties, had several bring back big plays for us. ... We had a couple turnovers that hurt us as well.”
Coahulla Creek quarterbacks combined for two interceptions, and the Colts also lost one fumble. By comparison, Heritage lost a fumble and threw one interception to Coahulla Creek’s Levi Wilson.
