Prep roundup: Bruins second at Creek Duals
Using a variety of wrestlers at each weight class, Northwest Whitfield High School’s team didn’t suffer from not having a set lineup on Wednesday at the Coahulla Creek Thanksgiving Duals in Varnell.
The Bruins went 4-1 to finish in second place in the event, beating Gordon Lee, Armuchee, Dalton and Coahulla Creek before falling in the championship to LaFayette. It was the second of three events for the Bruins this week.

The Daily Citizen sports writers Chris Whitfield and Devin Golden did a two-part Thanksgiving Day special for this week's "After Deadline" podcast. The second part is a Thanksgiving food tournament to determine the best of all foods enjoyed on this holiday.

Dalton State College’s basketball team is off to a hot start with an 8-1 record in its return to the court as the program’s signature sport. And even after Friday’s 85-61 exhibition loss to Alabama’s Jacksonville State, the buzz around the program is growing as the Roadrunners prepare to host Auburn-Montgomery at the trade center Tuesday night.
But a big part of the crowd expected for the game will be there cheering on the visiting Warhawks — or more likely, cheering on a returning hometown product.
Middle School Roundup: Cougars swim to slim win
Dalton Middle School’s swimming teams split competition against a pair of Chattanooga programs Thursday at Dalton High School, with the boys claiming a one-point victory against McCallie and the Lady Cougars falling 168-61 to Girls Preparatory School.
In the Cougars’ 119-18 win, Cade Gabriel won a pair of individual events and helped Dalton to a sweep of the relays.
Davidson releases second volume chronicling Catamount football
“Catamounts! The Glorious History of Dalton Football Volume 2” is now available for purchase.
This is the second of two installments on the history of Dalton High football written by Randal Davidson. The first volume came out last September, and the second volume was released the last week of October.

One quarter was the simple difference between the high school girls basketball teams of Christian Heritage and Dalton.
In Saturday’s second quarter, the Lady Catamounts were a lot better than the Lady Lions.
