• Dalton’s boys and girls were swept by host Rome, with the Cats falling 88-81 and the Lady Cats losing 101-69.
It was the first loss in 17 meets this season for Dalton’s boys, who were ahead by three points going into the night’s final event — the 400 freestyle relay — while the Lady Cats dropped to 10-7.
The Cats won the 200-yard medley relay as the lineup of Taylor Mathis, Austin Richard, Tanner Storey and Ethan Young turned in a state meet-qualifying time of 1 minute, 45.69 seconds.a
In individual competition, Alan Trejo and Young were double winners for Dalton. Trejo took the 200 freestyle (1:55.52) and the 500 freestyle (5:38.55), while Young won the 200 individual medley (2:05.72) and the 100 butterfly (52.59).
Mathis won the 100 backstroke in 56.75.
For Dalton’s girls, Romina Mendoza was a double winner, taking the 100 freestyle (1:02.97) and the 100 breaststroke (1:25.14).
Dalton hosts the North Georgia Regional meet this weekend.
“Hopefully our team will regroup and use this to get a little motivation,” Dalton coach Charles Todd said.
