— Southeast Whitfield’s baseball team is back to scoring a lot of runs and winning consecutive games.

The Raiders put 16 runs on the scoreboard Wednesday and only let LaFayette score once in a mercy rule win after five innings at home. Southeast has won two Sub-region 7B-4A games in a row after losing four straight, including all three against sub-region rival Dalton.

Southeast (9-5, 2-3) has scored 22 runs in this series and allowed only two, resembling a doubleheader a few weeks ago when Southeast scored 42 runs amid a six-game winning streak.

Blake Foster was 3-for-3 with a double, four runs and one RBI on Wednesday. Colter Faith finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a double. Rhett Harper was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Noah Ramsey was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Ty Pendley was 2-for-3 with an RBI double and two runs scored. Daniel Chavarria added a two-run single. Chase Jenkins was 1-for-2 with a two-run triple, and Keaton McCutchen scored once.

On the mound, Jenkins pitched all five innings, allowing an unearned run off four hits and one walk while striking out one.

“He threw the ball well,” Southeast coach Brad Lofton said. “The first walk was the first batter of the game, and then he settled in.”

The series concludes today in LaFayette at 5:30 p.m.

Northwest Whitfield 3, Heritage-Catoosa 2: The Bruins (9-3, 5-0) are making a habit of beating the Generals (7-6, 3-2) with walkoff errors.

With the score tied in the bottom of the seventh inning at Northwest’s Richard S. Chumley Field, Walker Maret scored from second on a sacrifice bunt attempt from Logan Hilton. Heritage’s pitcher threw to third attempting to get Maret out, but the ball sailed into left field and Maret trotted home to end the game.

It was a similar ending Tuesday when Andy Whisenant scored from third after an attempted pickoff went into left field. Northwest won that game 4-3.

Whisenant pitched five innings in Wednes-day’s win, allowing two runs off two hits and five walks. Just one of the runs was earned and he struck out six. Seth Pierce pitched two scoreless innings in relief, walking one and striking out four to earn the win.

Hilton went 2-for-3. Edwin Hernandez was 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Pierce brought Hernandez home with an RBI ground out to tie the game in the fourth.

Maret reached first in the seventh inning thanks to a Heritage error, and Omar Hernandez followed with a bunt single.

Golf

Southeast Whitfield 183, Murray County 240: Eric Sosebee shot a 7-over-par 43 on the front nine at Nob North to take medalist honors in a match that included participants from North Murray.
