Murray County High School’s football team will host a Lift-A-Thon fundraiser at 6 p.m. Thursday at the school’s weight room, and the community is invited.
The weight room is in the field house, between the football field and practice field across from the high school. Each player who participates must seek out $1 in donations for each pound they lift.
They’ll be “maxing out in bench press, squats and power clings,” Indians coach Chad Brewer said. People are invited to watch and the program’s booster club will have a booth set up at the event to accept donations.
The Indians will begin spring practice next week under Brewer, who was hired in early March to take over the program after the resignation of John Hammond, who went 2-18 in his two seasons, with both of those wins forfeits.
Brewer will be a head coach for the first time but is a veteran assistant coach who worked at Southeast Whitfield before spending this past season at Northwest Whitfield, where he is also the boys track and field coach.
