From Staff Reports
Five Murray County High School softball players made the 2013 All-Region 7-2A Team, as selected by the eight-team league’s head coaches, including first-team selections Aubrie Osborne and Shea Pendley.
Osborne, a sophomore catcher, and Pendley, a junior shortstop, were also chosen Honorable Mention Offensive Player of the Year and Honorable Mention Defensive Player of the Year, respectively.
The Lady Indians’ Lindsey Dunn, a sophomore pitcher and second baseman, was selected to the second team. Whitney Gribble, a sophomore pitcher and second baseman, and Ashlee Strong, a junior third baseman, earned spots on the honorable mention team.
Murray County, which had just one senior on its roster this season, finished 14-17. For the second season in a row, the Lady Indians were one win shy of making the state playoffs.
Calhoun, which won the region and the Class 2A state title, led the way with three first-team selections — like Murray County, Dade County and Pepperell each had two — and seven total selections to the all-region team.
Armuchee was second in total all-region selections, with six, while Murray County’s five tied for third with Chattooga and Pepperell.
