— North Murray High School’s Megan Pittman will be among those competing this weekend in the Georgia Dugout Club’s All-State Softball Games at LaGrange College.

Pittman, a junior third baseman, hit nine home runs and batted .534 this season to help lead the Lady Mountaineers to their third consecutive appearance in the state playoffs. North Murray advanced to the second round of the Class 3A bracket before falling to Franklin County, and Pittman had the Lady Mountaineers’ only three hits as they were swept in the best-of-three series.

In addition to her physical skills, Pittman played smart and knew when to take advantage of opportunities on the basepaths, North Murray coach Steve Granger said.

“She just has the instincts — stuff that you really can’t coach,” Granger said. “It’s kind of hard to explain, but she’s definitely a spark plug for us and it’s just a great honor for her to be able to play in (the all-state games).”

Pittman will play for the Region 5/6 team.

Each of the eight regions across the six classifications in the Georgia High School Association are paired up to make four total teams and will play each of the other three teams Saturday in a round-robin schedule.

On Friday, there will be individual competitions, such as a home run derby.

As reported earlier, Northwest Whitfield’s Bayli Cruse and Macy Weeks will play for the Region 7/8 team.
