Bruins’ Heard should be OK after JV injury

From Staff Reports

— A Northwest Whitfield High School football player was airlifted to Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga on Thursday after suffering an injury during the Bruins’ JV game against Murray County.

Cameron Heard, a sophomore running back and cornerback, had a “scary injury,” JV head coach and varsity defensive ends coach Steven Smith said, but will be fine and should be cleared by doctors to return to playing in a couple of weeks.

With less that two minutes to play in the first half, Heard made a tackle with his head down.

“It ended up being something similar to a stinger or pinched nerve,” Smith said.

LifeForce was called after EMTs decided not to bring Heard to a hospital via ambulance.

“They were really being cautious with where his injury was,” Smith said. “Any time a kid has that type of injury, they try to take a lot of precautions.”
