The Daily Citizen sports writers Chris Whitfield and Devin Golden did a two-part Thanksgiving Day special for this week's "After Deadline" podcast. The second part is a Thanksgiving food tournament to determine the best of all foods enjoyed on this holiday.

Dalton State College’s basketball team is off to a hot start with an 8-1 record in its return to the court as the program’s signature sport. And even after Friday’s 85-61 exhibition loss to Alabama’s Jacksonville State, the buzz around the program is growing as the Roadrunners prepare to host Auburn-Montgomery at the trade center Tuesday night.
But a big part of the crowd expected for the game will be there cheering on the visiting Warhawks — or more likely, cheering on a returning hometown product.
Middle School Roundup: Cougars swim to slim win
Dalton Middle School’s swimming teams split competition against a pair of Chattanooga programs Thursday at Dalton High School, with the boys claiming a one-point victory against McCallie and the Lady Cougars falling 168-61 to Girls Preparatory School.
In the Cougars’ 119-18 win, Cade Gabriel won a pair of individual events and helped Dalton to a sweep of the relays.

One quarter was the simple difference between the high school girls basketball teams of Christian Heritage and Dalton.
In Saturday’s second quarter, the Lady Catamounts were a lot better than the Lady Lions.

Northwest Whitfield softball offering parents a ‘night out’
Northwest Whitfield’s softball team, winner of the past two Georgia High School Association Class 4A state championships, will host a parents’ night out from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the school’s gym in Tunnel Hill.

Dalton High School will be isolated from the area’s athletic programs and North Murray and Murray County are expected to have an official rivalry, according to classification divisions released Monday by the Georgia High School Association.
Lady Bruins’ Ashley Conner signs grant with UTC
Rarely ever the outspoken one of the bunch, Ashley Conner gladly accepted the role of just doing her job on offense and defense for four years on the Northwest Whitfield High School softball team.
She’s expected to do the same at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.
