Lady Bruins lead way on All-Region

— Seven local high school softball players made the All-Region 7-4A squad.

Northwest Whitfield, which won the Class 4A state championship, led with five players. Bayli Cruse was voted Sub-region 7B’s player of the year by the coaches. The catcher also received The Daily Citizen’s All-Area Player of the Year recognition and made Class 4A’s All-State team.

BriLeigh Baggett (pitcher), Ashley Conner (shortstop), Colbie Thomas (center fielder) and Macy Weeks (left fielder) were the other Lady Bruins to make the all-region team.

For Dalton, Christen Pender made the all-region team after playing shortstop for the Lady Catamounts. Sydney Covington, a pitcher and infielder for Southeast Whitfield, made the squad as a utility player and was the last of the local players earning one of Sub-region 7B’s 14 spots. Sub-region 7A had 12 players.

The other players from Sub-region 7B were Heritage-Catoosa’s Lauren Lawson (pitcher), Shelby Hammontree (catcher) and Olivia Tamewitz (outfielder); LaFayette’s Kaleigh Goff (infielder) and Shayla Ludy (outfielder); and Ridgeland’s Haley Johnson (infielder) and Shelby Epperson (utility). Lawson was pitcher of the year.

For Sub-region 7A, Cass’ Courtney Bailey was pitcher of the year and Cedartown’s Ava Tillmann was player of the year.
