Whitfield girls finish second in state hoops

The Whitfield County Parks and Recreation Department All-Stars recently finished second at the Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s Class A 7-8 girls basketball state tournament.

Whitfield — which reached the state tournament after winning the GRPA District 5 championship in February — was runner-up to Spalding, which won the title game 12-10 in overtime. Reilly Grady, Emma Snyder, Gracie Young, Kenley Woods and Jillian Poe each had two points in the game.

Led by Reilly Grady’s 10-point effort, Whitfield won its opening game at the tournament, 22-7 over College Park. Katelyn Richards added five points in that game. Whitfield advanced to the title game after Savannah forfeited.
