The Dalton Dolphins wrapped up the top spot in the Chattanooga Area Swim League’s Blue Division regular season standings with a narrow 279-277 victory over Stuart Heights on Thursday.
“It came down to the last relays — the senior boys and senior girls,” Dolphins coach Charles Todd said. “We had to win them both to win the meet, and we did. It was pretty exciting.”
The Dolphins (6-1) suffered their only loss of the summer season at home to Signal Mountain, 372-356, but responded by getting a 402.5-365.5 win at Signal Mountain last month. Dalton won by enough points to claim the division title even if it loses its final dual meet Monday at Fort Oglethorpe.
Ethan Pence and Taylor Dale led the Dolphins with the maximum 19 individual points apiece, while Abby O’Ferrall added 18 and Ethan Young and Reese Bingham each contributed 17 points.
Jonathan Shaheen and Hollie Elizabeth Porter had 16 apiece, Nash Bingham scored 15 points and Alex Mashburn had 13. Joana Rosales, Raul Valdez, Ross Valdez, Sean Lee and Oscar Chenard each scored 12 points, while Hannah Renae Smith had 11 and William Cushman added 10.
