Several former area high school golfers helped lead the North All-Stars to a 15-12 victory over the South in the Senior All-Star Match Play Championships this week at Sunset Country Club in Moultrie.
Organized by the state’s prep golf coaches, the event was played Wednesday and Thursday and featured best ball competition among two-player teams on the opening day and singles play on Thursday. The participants were recent high school graduates, and 12 boys and six girls played for each of the all-star teams.
All of the local competitors — Southeast Whitfield’s Megan Collins, Northwest Whitfield’s Sam Speights and North Murray’s Jocelyn Blair and Colby Hipp — managed to earn points for the North.
Hipp teamed up with Speights to earn a half point on Wednesday, but he fell 1-up in the singles competition. Speights won 4 and 3 in singles, while Blair was a 4 and 3 winner in singles. Collins, who teamed with Heritage-Catoosa’s Rachel Rebne for a 1-up victory, also won in singles play but match details were not available.
