Prep volleyball: Perez, Allen named to 7-4A first team

Southeast Whitfield High School senior middle hitter Wendy Perez and Northwest Whitfield sophomore middle hitter Mary Kate Allen were both named to the Region 7-4A All-Region Volleyball first team as voted on by the region’s coaches.

Heritage-Catoosa libero Hailey Hixon was named Player of the Year, and the Lady Generals had four of the seven members of the first-team. Heritage’s Sarah Wilks, Kelly Helton and Jordon Wheeler made the first team along with Gilmer’s Jenna Parks.

Perez and Allen were also selected as members of The Daily Citizen’s All-Area team which was published in November.

Perez finished this season with 360 kills, 211 digs, 48 blocks and 40 aces for the Lady Raiders, leading Southeast to a 30-13 record overall with a trip to the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs. It was the fifth consecutive year that the Lady Raiders had reached at least the second round of the state playoff bracket.

Allen had a breakout sophomore season for the Lady Bruins. A middle hitter, she finished as the team leader in kills (314) and aces (44) and also led varsity players in Murray and Whitfield counties with 80 blocks.

Southeast’s Yasmeen Paloblanco — another All-Area selection by The Daily Citizen — was named to the second team by the coaches along with teammates Angie Purkey and Serena Ramsey. Players from area schools selected as honorable mention were Northwest’s Peyton Maret and Dalton’s Alejandra Fraire, Macie Noles, Ashleigh Peters and Hannah Cox.
