Hughes hits halfway point at Q School

Dalton’s Matt Hughes torched the Jack Nicklaus Course at PGA West on Friday, making up for Thursday’s rough start to six days of tournament play in the finals of the Tour qualifying tournament.

On Saturday, he came back to the middle. Hughes shot a 2-over-par 74 to finish at 3-over par at the midway point of the tournament. He shot a 78 on the Stadium Course in the opening round, but came back on Friday with a 5-under 67.

Hughes heads into the fourth round tied for 129th in the field of 152 golfers. The top 44 finishers earn exemptions through at least the halfway point of the Tour season.

Steve Saunders is the leader of the tournament at 17-under, with the top exemption line at 5-under.
