Dalton Middle School’s girls tennis team dropped just nine games on its way to a 9-0 victory against Rome on Tuesday.
The Lady Cougars, who remained undefeated four matches into the season, got singles wins from Eunice Alvarran, 8-0 in pro-set play, Olivia Tidwell, 8-1, Alice Adams, 8-0, Vanessa Vargas 8-1, Caroline Mathis, 8-0 and Abby Dyer, 8-0.
Winning in doubles play were Amy Sahoo and Caro-line Coleman, 8-2, Sophia Shepherd and Surbhi Bhatter, 8-2, and Vanessa Vargas and Sadie Cowan, 8-1.
• Dalton 12, Boyd-Buchanan 0: Brock Nelson and Sam Stepp combined for a no-hitter Tuesday as the host Cougars (5-0) dominated in a game shortened to five innings by the run rule.
Nelson struck out three and walked three in the first three innings on the mound, while Stepp struck out three and walked two in relief.
Tucker Sumner led a 10-hit effort for Dalton, going 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs. Vinny Vega had a three-run home run in the third inning.
• New Hope JV 10, McCallie 0: Sebastian Orozco went 3-for-3 with a three-run home run and five RBIs and earned the victory on the mound as the Kodiaks’ junior varsity squad won in five innings Tuesday against the Chattanooga program.
Seth Godfrey, David Ramirez and Caleb Ramsey each went 2-for-3, with Ramirez driving in a run. Brody Crossen and Seth Henderson each added an RBI.
Orozco allowed one hit and one walk while striking out four in three innings of work before giving way to Chris Cunningham, who struck out one, walked one and gave up a hit.
• Bagley’s soccer teams split with New Hope on Tuesday, with the Braves winning 4-1 and the Lady Braves falling 4-0.
In the boys game, Kevin Garcia, Manuel Palacios and Ernesto Rodriguez had goals for Bagley. Ishmael Capistran and Jose De La Cruz were noted for their play in goal for the Braves, while Fernando Pulido and Bryan Velaquez made offensive contributions in the second half.
Individual statistics and noteworthy performances for New Hope were not reported.
