Area middle school roundup: Tucker's touchdowns lead Bagley in rout

— Tyler Tucker racked up yardage and touchdowns to push a punishing ground attack for Bagley’s seventh-grade football team in a 40-12 win against Valley Point during North Georgia Middle School Athletic League competition this past Thursday.

Tucker finished with 265 yards on the ground as well as six scores, while Logan Ponders added 125 rushing yards.

Other outstanding Bagley players as noted by their coaches were Logan Dillard, Jay Flood and Hunter Officer.

Dalton seventh grade 6, Eastbrook 0: Dalton’s defense made Amir El-Ameen’s 4-yard run hold up in Thursday’s victory for the Cougars (2-1).

Dalton eighth grade 30, Eastbrook 0: Cade Gabriel, Damontae Haynes, Caleb Ramsey and J.P. Tighe scored touchdowns, while Aaron Fraire, Roger Quintero and Ramsey each added a two-point conversion in Thursday’s victory for the Cougars (2-1).

Cross country

• Dalton’s boys were runners-up and the Lady Cougars took third in the Covered Bridge Invitational — which included 16 teams and nearly 600 runners — on Saturday at Woodland Middle School in Cartersville.

The Cougars were second to Woodland, with scoring finishes coming from Adan Rodriguez (fourth), Ezequiel Hernandez (sixth), Austin Burt (17th), Moises Gaspar (42nd) and Kevin Rincon (46th). Miguel Guzman and Juan Alvarran also participated for Dalton.

The Lady Cougars, who finished behind Model and Woodland, got scoring runs from Leah Shelton (10th), Grace Anderson (12th), Olivia Ross (13th), Caroline Coleman (40th) and Diana Rahman (43rd). Martinika Miranda and Windel Ross also competed for Dalton.

The junior varsity boys, who were fourth, got points from Francisco Fraire, Sergio Alvarez, Sam Stuart, Luis De La Peña and Javier Perez.

The JV Lady Cougars finished sixth and got points from Zaelyn Bowman, Karina Paez, Alondra Lopez, Valerie Rojo and Hadley King.



Softball

Gladden 8, New Hope 5: Jillian Jones and Brook Waldroop each had a pair of hits and drove in two runs to lead the Lady Braves to Thursday’s road win, while pitcher Kacie Ausmus struck out seven to earn the win.

Ali Ausmus and Bridgett Cloer each added two hits, while Attie Ridley had an RBI for the Lady Warriors (3-1).
