Middle School Roundup: New Hope girls sweep to hoops titles

— Kylee Ward scored 16 points and pulled down five rebounds to lead the New Hope Middle School eighth-grade girls to a 48-16 win over Bagley as the Whitfield County school swept both girls championships in the finals of the North Georgia Middle School Athletic League’s tournament Saturday at Northwest Whitfield High School.

The Lady Kodiaks won the seventh-grade girls title with a 37-12 win over Bagley. Bagley played in all of the tournament championship games for both boys and girls. Westside beat Bagley’s boys for the seventh-grade title with a 40-38 victory. The Rockets also topped the Braves in the eighth-grade championship with a 39-27 victory.

In the girls eighth-grade title game, Bria Clemmons added 13 points and five assists for New Hope (22-0), while Aubrey Young finished with 11 points and eight steals. After leading by a 15-11 margin at the end of the first half, the Lady Kodiaks held Bagley scoreless in the third quarter and put 20 points on the board to take control of the game.

Kelli Barnes and Katelyn Crumbley each had five points to lead Bagley (10-4).

In the seventh-grade girls championship, New Hope (21-0) led 23-4 at the half and rolled to the easy win over the Lady Braves (9-5).

Holly Heath had 10 points to lead all scorers, and she also finished with six steals as the Lady Kodiaks used their defense effectively. MaLane Kyer and Hallie Brooker both also had six steals and finished with eight and six points, respectively. Shelby Satterfield led Bagley with six points.

According to coach Casey Kyer, it is the third-straight year that the New Hope girls teams have won the title.

Westside seventh-grade boys 40, Bagley 38: The Rockets erased a 33-31 deficit heading into the fourth quarter to take the title victory.

Waylyn James scored 10 points to lead Bagley (10-4) in the defeat. Jaden Baggett had eight points, and Braedon Bond and Connor Rice each had seven. No individual statistics werereported for Westside.

Westside eighth-grade boys 39, Bagley 27: The Rockets started off with a 15-2 run to start the game and never looked back in taking the championship victory.

Balgey (8-6) was led by Brody Frazier’s 10 points, while Blake Davis added eight. Individual statistics were not reported for Westside.

New Hope eighth-grade girls 37, Valley Point 19: In the tournament semifinals on Friday, Clemmons finished with 13 points and Young added 10. Individual statistics were not reported for Valley Point.

New Hope seventh-grade girls 42, Gladden 9: In the tournament semifinals on Thursday, Heath led the way with 18 points, and Maggie Linder had 13 points. Individual statistics were not reported for Gladden.

Bagley seventh-grade girls 28, Westside 27: Shelby Satterfield scored 12 to lead the Lady Braves in Thursday’s semifinal victory. Individual statistics were not reported for Westside.

Bagley eighth-grade girls 30, Westside 25: In Friday’s tournament semifinals, Crumbley finished with nine points and Skylar Key added eight in the win. Individual statistics were not reported for Westside.

Bagley seventh-grade boys 54, New Hope 40: Bond scored 20 points and James added 18 to lead the Braves in Thursday’s semifinal victory. Individual statistics were not reported for New Hope.

• Bagley eighth-grade boys 46, New Hope 41: Ethan Payne led the Braves with 12 points, and Frazier added 11 in Friday’s semifinal win. Individual statistics were not reported for New Hope.
