Indians routed on road

ROME — Model High School’s football team made the most of homecoming night by lighting up the scoreboard with eight touchdowns in the first half en route to a 62-14 win in Region 7-2A play against Murray County.

Model quarterback Cameron O’Neal was one of several Blue Devils who had a stellar night. O’Neal completed six passes for 126 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. He also scored on a 15-yard touchdown run.

“It’s great to have done so well tonight,” O’Neal said. “We came together really well. We played good offense and defense throughout the game.”

Model’s Jordan Worfford had 119 rushing yards with a touchdown, Jamal Milligan had 36 total rushing yards with a touchdown and Tyrece Dammond had 41 rushing yards with a touchdown.

Chris Dublin scored one of Model’s touchdowns with a one-yard run at the goal line in the first quarter.

Model’s running game wasn’t the only highlight from the Blue Devils (5-1, 3-0).

“We worked to improve our passing game over (bye week),” Model head coach Gordon Powers said. “We kept the ball moving and gained a lot of ground.”

Austin Price caught two touchdown passes, and Jacob Lambert caught the other for the final touchdown. Model had 126 passing yards.

Murray County (1-5, 0-3) finished the night with only 63 passing yards and 45 rushing yards. Indians quarterback Justin “Jug” Smith had two touchdown passes, both on throws to Petee Waldon. It was the third consecutive loss for Murray County.
