Local teenagers ahead of the rest in Healthcare Classic 10K, 5K races

Isaac Pacheco is a recurring name at the top of local race results.

Jessie Martinez could be winning just as often in the coming years.

The 14-year-old Martinez won the Bill Gregory Healthcare Classic 10K race Saturday in Dalton with a time of 38 minutes, 30 seconds. Pacheco, 19, won the 5K race in 16:53.

Pacheco, a 2013 North Murray graduate and current Dalton State College student and cross country runner, won the 26th-annual Carpet Classic 10-miler in December and the 11th-annual Silver Bell Sprint just a week before. That’s just two of his many road-racing accolades.

Martinez, a Gladden Middle School eighth-grader and brother of Murray County High School athlete Servio Martinez, had a pace of 6:12 per mile en route to winning.

Dee Goodwin, 46, of Cohutta, was the female overall winner in the 10K with a 43:48. In the 5K race, Southeast Whitfield High School athlete Isabel Salinas, 16, was the female overall winner with a time of 20:45.
