• Dalton’s girls team finished fourth at the Burke Invita-tional Classic at Waynesboro Country Club, a par-72 course, with a team score of 259.

The Class 4A girls state tournament will be played at Waynesboro Country Club on May 19, and Dalton will play in the tournament as the Region 7-4A champions.

Class 2A Vidalia’s Katie Dalton was the medalist with a 71, and her team’s 232 won the event. Class 3A Woodward Academy (254) and Class 4A and tournament host Burke County (255) followed with Dalton four strokes behind in fourth.

Mable McKone (81), Ashleigh Peters (88), Baylee Mitchell (90) scored for the Lady Catamounts, who were without Carson Roberts due to an injury. Olga Fouche (98) also played for the Lady Cats in the four-play, three-count scoring format.

“I am real pleased,” Dalton coach Nancy Hallsworth said. “The greens were real slow and that will be important knowledge to have at state. All in all, it is nice to play in the sunshine and was very proud with the strong showing with the girls.”
