Rampage ready to get preseason work going

From Sports Staff

— The Georgia Rampage will hold preseason camp this weekend at James Brown Park in Dalton, and all of the Ultimate Indoor Football League’s workouts will be open to the public.

Camp begins today with sessions from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Dalton franchise will also practice from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

“Feel free to come up, bring a lunch and come out and watch us,” co-owner Kacee Smith said. “... We’ll have practices both days, make some cuts and bring them back Wednesday or Thursday. That will conclude our cuts. Then we’ll go into our normal practice schedule.”

The roster currently includes 33 players, Smith said, but it will be trimmed after this weekend to the maximum of 24 allowed for the season.

The team, which Smith said plans to hold “two or three” practices each week, will play its home games in the trade center. The Rampage will host a preseason game Feb. 26 against the Georgia Panthers, an outdoor team, before beginning its 2013 UIFL schedule March 4 at home against the Lakeland (Fla.) Raiders.
