— Organizers anticipate more than 1,500 runners at the fourth annual Dalton Red Carpet Half Marathon, sponsored by Alliant Health Plans, on Oct. 26 in downtown Dalton.

When registering at active.com, participants may choose the half marathon (13.1 miles), 5K (3.1 miles) or the 2K (1.2 miles) fun run. The half marathon is sponsored by Shaw Industries, the 5K is sponsored by J&J Industries and the 2K fun run is sponsored by Engineered Floors.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Dalton charity City of Refuge, which offers services for homeless or financially troubled residents, as well as Family Promise of Whitfield County, which works with area churches to provide shelter, food and support to homeless families with children.

Free training for half marathon runners is being provided by Bradley Wellness Center beginning Aug. 6, with a session at 6 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday through Oct. 24. In addition, a free faith-based runners training program will be available at the First Baptist Church of Dalton youth center starting Monday, with sessions at 6 p.m. every Monday and Thursday leading up to the race.

This year the Liberty Tree BBQ & Music Festival and its platinum sponsors, Engineered Floors and Marketing Alliance, have partnered with the race to provide food, music and fun beginning at noon on race day. Activities will include a taster’s choice BBQ competition as well as a concert by rock band Fastball at 7 p.m. Concert tickets are $5 for ages 13 and older, and half marathon and 5K participants will receive two tickets.

Bradley Wellness Center will host packet pick-up and registration for racers from noon to 6 p.m. the day before the race.
